CENTER HOURS/HOLIDAY CLOSING:
Please take note that the center will be closed from Monday, December 24 to Friday,
January 4. The center will re-open on Monday, January 7, 2008.
The center will also be closed on Friday, March 21 (Good Friday) and Monday,
March 24 (Easter Monday).
The activities and programs will run from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Now that the colder and stormier days are here, we ask that the
members and volunteers, do not get to the center at 8:30am, but
a little later, so that we have the time to open, bring in items
that we had to pick up, and get our day going.
Also,
please note that Fridays, the center will be closing at 1:00pm.
Please call the center to see if anyone is there before coming
down on Friday afternoons.
Anybody using the adapted
transport, please make sure that you confirm your pick-up time
for 3:30pm. Thank-you.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL:
A renewed membership is always required to take part
in Almage activities and/or programs. The membership
for the year is $20.00, and if you would like to receive the
newsletter at home, it is an additional $5.00 to cover the postage
expense.
Membership renewal for 2008-2009 will be as of Tuesday,
April 1st. A center membership is valid from April
1st to March 31st of a given year!
**Anyone that became a NEW member (or was a late renewed
member) before December 31st, 2007 has to renew their membership
in the month of April, 2008 like everyone else. Our new fiscal
year starts from April 1st every year.
CALL BEFORE COMING DOWN:
Due to the unpredictable weather conditions that we may experience
in the upcoming months (rainstorm, snow, ice), it would be advisable
to call the office before making your way to the center. Program
schedules may change or may be cancelled because of the bad weather
or the lack of volunteers.
WINTER STORM ADVISORY:
In the event of a winter storm, members and volunteers are encouraged
to listen to CJAD-800AM,
940 NEWS or to tune in to Global TV’s This Morning Live
Program. Announcements about the center’s closing will
be aired very early in the morning. You may also call the
center; a recorded message will indicate whether or not the center
will be closed, and if programs will be cancelled for that day.
PLEASE REMOVE YOUR BOOTS :
We cannot stress this enough. We repeat this
phrase over and over, not only so that the center stays clean,
but also so that the center is safe – and no one slips.
PLEASE, bring in your shoes to change into, or you can put on
the blue shoe covers for your boots, which are available at the
entrance.
We have a new boot rack, which you will find as soon as you walk
in. Please remove your boots and place them on the rack. The boots
will dry up there and not cause a mess in the entrance way or in
the closet. Do not worry, the boots will remain warm, because we
have a heater there.
CHANGING OF THE TIME ON YOUR CLOCKS:
Don’t forget the time springs forward on Sunday March 9,
at 2:00am. This is also a good time to change the batteries in
your smoke detectors.
UPDATES:
* Annual Bazaar: A total of $3,720.00 was raised
in November. It’s amazing what could be accomplished when
so many people come together. Thank You!
*Centraide Campaign: You helped us raise $125.00
for this year’s campaign.
*Consultation on Seniors’ Living Conditions: Close
to 30 members boarded a school bus (bound for Dorval) on November
16th to have their say! This was their opportunity to express their
needs and recommend ways the provincial government can better serve
this growing population. A final report is expected by the end
of January 2008.
*CTV’s Spirit of Giving: Your continued
support and generosity is much appreciated. You helped brighten
the lives of those less fortunate during the Christmas season!
